Notes from the Christian Home Educators Conference {and a GIVEAWAY!}

About ten days ago, we were blessed to be able to attend a Christian Home Educators Conference.  Keynote speakers included Dr. Voddie Baucham and Steve Demme, with breakout sessions from other wonderfully gifted teachers.  Maybe you understand our excitement?

Walking into the conference, we laughed at all the bumper stickers and slogans in the parking lot; there's nothing like a group of like-minded families getting together!  Here was one of my favorites:

And our oldest son, Gentry, got quite a kick out of this one ~ Can you guess why? :o)

The conference was in a beautiful (and very large) church.  Everything was well-organized, the people were friendly, and we have nothing but good things to say.  Sessions included: Teach the Word of God at Home, Getting Your House in Order, The Socialization Trap, Cultural Apologetics, Character Building, How Education Effects Worldview, and more.  We left inspired and better equipped for this awesome responsibility!

We decided to stick with Rod & Staff curriculum, and purchased Gentry's grade 1 books for next year while we were there.  Any other Rod & Staff fans out there?  We used their Kindergarten set this past year and loved their content and simplicity.  I think they are perfect for an active young boy ;o)

GIVEAWAY!!!  Steve Demme was one of the inspiring keynote speakers at this conference.  I grabbed an extra copy of his book, "The Christian Home and Family Worship" just for one of you!  It's a short book (only 90 or so pages long) with practical advice and tips about how to begin and maintain a time of family worship in your own home.  To be entered to win, you have these options:

1.  Leave a comment on this post (1 entry)
2.  Subscribe to this blog (and reply to the confirmation email you will recieve), and leave a comment letting me know (3 entries)
3.  Post about the giveaway on your blog, and leave a comment letting me know (5 entries)
4.  Share this blog on your facebook page, and leave a comment letting me know (5 entries)

The giveaway will end Friday at 10:00 p.m.  Best wishes to you!

  5. I've looked at Rod and Staff and found them interesting. I've stuck with Sonlight throughout the years though and enjoy it.

    I missed going to our local conference this year. It's always so good to go and be encouraged and fun to see all the (too) many choices! :)

  7. I'd love to read this book. Though we don't use Rod and Staff for school, I was given 9 short booklets - stories in a series called God is Good. I read them to my kids a lot and they love them. Think I'll keep my eyes open for more of their books now that you mention it.

I truly enjoy reading your comments. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts; you've all helped to create a wonderful little community here at Like a Bubbling Brook.

Please remember the old adage "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." While I love to hear from you, comments encouraging division and condemnation will not be published - rather, they will be promptly deleted.

I'm looking forward to reading what you have to say! I wish we could chat over coffee or tea one day ~

xoxo,

Jaime
