A Peek Into My Recipe Binder

My sweet husband surprised me with a recipe binder about two years ago.

What's so sweet about that?  Well... he made it himself.

Yes, he did.

It wasn't very girly or feminine, but it was put together with love and good intentions.  Picture a simple white three-ring binder, with a printed page in the front cover that read "Jaime's Recipes," and with printed, tabbed pages inside.  He even used a three-hole punch on some of my recipes and inserted them for me.

"You really need this," is what he said to me. "You'll use it."  And he was right.

Now, a couple years in fast-forward, my recipe binder has become quite full of our family favorites, and I look forward to it being passed on in the family one day.  Wouldn't it be nice if it became a treasured keepsake for my boys when they are grown, after I am gone?

Recently, I replaced the binder that holds the recipes.  This new one is a bit larger, and has a fun, feminine pattern.  It also has a handy little clip inside the front flap for holding loose papers; I use it to secure my bread machine's recipe book.

Here is how my recipes are organized (and I'm sure yours would probably look different):
  • Breakfast
  • Muffins
  • Breads
  • Salads
  • Soups & Stews
  • Meatless Meals
  • Chicken
  • Beef
  • Side Items
  • Desserts
  • Cleansing Meals
  • Other
Here are a few more glimpses ~

Do you have a recipe box, book, or binder that you use?  I'd love to hear about it!

  2. I really like your recipe binder. I have one that I started several years ago, but I haven't added to it in a long time. I just enjoy paging through it now and then and remembering what I was doing in that time of my life when I added each recipe. Your post inspired me to start adding again:)

  3. I'm guilty of not adding to my binder that I started as well... I started just shoving pages in it that had been printed out. :-( So now I add new recipes to a folder! I'll get organized again one day.....

  4. I have a binder as well. Honestly what I'd love to do is get one of those small laptops and just have it on my kitchen counter. It would be much easier since I prep food at the counter and the laptop would be there. I'd just need a waterproof cover for the keypad. :)

  5. @Lecia ~ You are very astute ;o) I loooove my hubby! Thanks for popping by!

@Kari ~ So glad! Let me know how it goes!

@ Cindy ~ Oh, trust me, I've shoved pages in a time or two myself. Then I get frustrated with it and spend twenty minutes with my three hole punch, lol ;o) I feel so much better after that! Thanks for your transparency...

  6. Yes, I do have one which I just re-organized. However, I'm not liking the dividers that I found at Staples. I couldn't find the ones I really liked, so these were a compromise. Because I put my recipes into plastic sleeves, the dividers don't stick out, but I think I may pull everything out of the plastic sleeves and just make it work!

The outside of your binder is much more fun looking than mine!

  7. Yes! I have a bulging binder of recipes, but I've put mine in plastic page protecters so we can wipe off the cake batter when it gets splattered all over. Each section is alphabetized, and I can mostly remember what's located in the binder vs. the recipe card box from my youth.

  8. @Nana ~ I think the plastic page protectors are a GREAT idea! I'm going to be on the look-out for some that don't go beyond and block my tabbed dividers... Wiping off the cake batter is of utmost importance ;o) Thanks for stopping by!

  9. Hello Jaime!

Thank you so much for your visit and sweet comment. What a lovely blog you have here. I am always so delighted when someone new drops by to say hello.:o)

How sweet of your husband to make you the binder, and a lovely binder it is. I am afraid I have my recipes tucked away on slips of paper in an old cookbook.:o) The cookbook is something special though, it belonged to my husband's mother and is filled with wonderful recipes and a few of her very own. Making a lovely binder to keep them all is a wonderful idea, you have inspired me.:o)

Again thank you so much for dropping by! You and your family enjoy a beautiful weekend.

    Smiles....

    Beverly

  10. I love your binder! I have a box; I think I like it because I used to watch my Granny ruffle through her cards in her box. Not that I ever remember her actually using a recipe to cook, though!

  13. This binder makes me happy! I started a recipe binder but I need to organize it better. Love having the clip on the inside, too. I've seen those before, but hadn't thought to use it for my recipe binder. Now I'm itching to head to the store for new one! :)

  15. I'm making my own dividers for my recipe notebook. It's on my desk in a pile right this minute. I'm making the dividers out of double-sided scrapbook cardstock. I can cut them wide enough that I can see them because I use plastic sleeves for my recipes.

    Have a great weekend -
    Susan

  16. I have 5 recipe binders and that's down from the 7 I used to have. This year I'm going thru them and taking out the ones I actually use and putting them in my new menu planning binder. The ones that don't get pulled to use are going to the library give away. I've been clipping and saving them forever without actually using them. Not any more!!

I really like your binder and how neat and tidy it is. Thanks so much for posting!!
